Let's be clear: this is REALLY stupid

The Daily Herald published an article about the Jagla petition challenge yesterday. They managed to make all parties involved seem like complete morons. I'm beginning to think they aren't so far off the mark.

Where in the world do I begin with this? The quotes are the funniest:

"I had an agreement with G.I. Jill that we're not going to do stupid things like that," Jagla said.

"I guess they figured they'd better spend $1,000 to get rid of me than $1 million later," Jagla added. "If Flynn is doing the challenge for G.I. Jill, then she just buried herself. Is she stupid or what?"

Morgenthaler's spokesman Charles Blumenthal said Flynn is a supporter but wasn't pushed to file the objection.

"We haven't worked with him at all, not even for this," Blumenthal said. "We do agree that a citizen has every right to challenge a petition."

Blumenthal said there was never an agreement with Jagla to refrain from petition challenges in the race.

"Let's be clear, Jill has never spoken to Stan Jagla one day in her life," Blumenthal said.

People, GIVE ME A BREAK, ALREADY! Of course Jill Morgenthaler is behind the petition challenge, if only due to the fact that she doesn't stop it. By not coming out against it or asking that her supporters stop it, she is, by default the one responsible. She is also within her rights to challenge Stan's petitions. So why in the world is her organization denying any involvement?

Let's be clear,
I hate all this shadowy, sneaky, and transparent B.S. from people who apparently think they're smarter than the rest of us. Stand behind your actions, people.

Just say it! "Yes, I am challenging Stan Jagla's petitions. I don't believe all of his signatures are valid." What is the problem with that? Why does someone else have to be put up to do it? Because we're all too stupid to do Google searches and find out that these people are directly involved with Jill Morgenthaler and one of the people who recruited her, Rep. Melissa Bean?

Again, GIVE ME A BREAK. Really, you can do better than that.

And don't even get me started about Stan's comments and Blumenthal's response. Oy. I don't know which is more ridiculous; that Stan thinks it will take $1 million to get rid of him or Charles Blumenthal's ridiculously defensive, serious statement in response. Does Stan really merit that? No.

UGH.

Bridget,
I love ya, but isn't this rank speculation on your part? Saying "Of course Jill Morgenthaler is behind the petition challenge, if only due to the fact that she doesn't stop it" is the same kind of BS you're complaining about.

Please post any real evidence when you get it. I'd love to see it.

Hi Larry! Good to see you here.

I had a feeling that someone would make this argument. To be fair, I debated with myself a little before making that claim.

My point is that I care much less about the idea of challenging petitions than I do about a candidate standing behind her actions. A simple statement asserting that everyone must follow the rule of law would have sufficed. I can't say I would have been happy with Jill for actively trying to limit competition, but I could deal with it.

I realize that she wouldn't have been able to file the objection herself because she does not live in the district. But, dammit, stand behind it or don't!

The guy that is "acting as attorney" for the challenge is involved with Melissa Bean's organization. Jill told me and a room full of people that she was recruited to run by Melissa Bean and Tammy Duckworth. The fact that Jill has not come out against the challenge tells me that she's not against the idea. At the very, very least, she is an enabler.

Put 2 & 2 together, Larry. This is par for the course for almost EVERY candidate who challenges petitions. Virtually without exception they try to pawn off the responsibility on some unknown, third party who must have done it on his own. They feign ignorance and it's annoying and deceptive. If this was legitimate behavior, they'd be standing behind it.

It isn't so they don't.

So, you can go ahead and reserve judgment until you see absolute proof. I'm saying that I don't think I need to read it spelled out on paper to know that Jill Morgenthaler's campaign had something to do with it.

It will all come out later, anyway. Always does.

As I understand it from posts at various places like Prairie state blue that the person who handled the paperwork in Springfield was an attorney named Chanman who is also a Springfield alderman. Questions of Mr. Flynn were referred to his lawyer who is the guy in Palatine organization who supports Bean as I understand it.

And yes I agree that she is responsible for this since she has not repudiated the actions and of course she is trying to act like she is not responsible for such scummy tactics.
